by faith I will walk on Lord

Abraham was called a friend of God
and a man of faith
-
and faith is what pleases God(heb 11)
-
ah well... bs tmr , let me conduct it with faith in Him
-I like that song... it meant so much to me before, and still does...

and ubuntu is working, albeit rather slowly ( 400MB of ram, but 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4?)
-
and skinning it up to look nice
-
the power and stability of the unix system , like mac os x, but without the intuitiveness , and user friendliness/compatibilty it offers
-
I need to buy:
1GB RAM memory stick(or two 2GB sticks for uber fast(but useless) 4 GB memory?, unless i intend to run VMware WS/player on linux...)
dedicated Graphics card (any cheapskate Nvidia with hardware acceleration will do)
-
optional:
USB ports PCI card (the ports on my sis comp are half busted)
Gigabit Ethernet port PCI card( the 100MBps port is kinda slow)
Wireless PCI card(not essential, since I already have a direct wired connection, but it would be fun to mess around with Linux's packet sniffer tools)
Firewire/DV/iLink PCI card
a pretty desktop mouse (using alaptop mouse now O.o)
a Keyboard not suffering from the brown keys syndrome

Ubuntu

after spending 6 hours assembling my 2nd sisters old comp from random bits and getting the Ubuntu live cd dist
-
it still DOESNT work
-
boo
-
kernel panics
and corrupted cds
I've wasted 2 of my lightscribe CDs
-
apparently 1 missing file can kill the whole install process
-
going to try the alt installer (Command Line Interface based)
hopefully it wont give me problems
-

-
anyway i dont really feel like blogging so much of such stuff... lest i bore the not so tech savvy people reading my blog into bits...
-
"Ubuntu is freaking good"(nick seow)
-
'nuff said,  test driving it over VMware certainly bought me over
-
but the install process certainly is a headache
-
hopefully it'll be worth it after that, so i can finally set up my download/torrent-ting/server function desktop(a laptop doesn't do well if i do over night DL)
-
maybe I'll try OSX86(hackintosh) if Ubuntu refuses to work
-
but that's another stupid  2 night DL

oh well
days
-
today
went to school a later than usual, and saw Felicia, apparently analysing music EE samples
-
and after that Emil actually sits down, takes out his math to do
-
lol
thats a first... normally i take a nap or surf the net for the morning and only start doing serious work in the afternoon
-
then Nick Seow came along, and any work which i might have done was... not done, talking too much about stuff
-
"diastole(relaxed), systole(contract)"
"the sino-atrial node is innervated by the sympathetic and parasympathetic  nervous system"
-
I need to start on human physiology soon... the one without Mdm Ruma's wonder slides

Tim's place
back to school to pass Pet Liam something
-
and math... math... math... throughout
-
MI (Mathematical Induction) can die.... i don't about what Pk+1 is true=>Pk+2 is true.....
so can Poisson distributions and all the stats
and Implicit Dy/dx
-

shall i compare thee to a summer's day?
-
shall i shake a spear at shakespear for coming out with EA1 texts to study? esp IOC that is coming up?
-
or...
-

ah sigh... why?
-
I wont say anything more... there are more private places to log my thoughts after all
-
the rantdom rants of a tired confused emil

Love, and be silent.

CORDELIA :
[Aside] What shall Cordelia do?
Love, and be silent.

Alto party, or reunion... haha
was rather small attendance... but at least i managed to meet up with the seniors (y7s)
and the ONLY person from the IB choir side who turned up was...
-
Evelyn
...
imagine me sitting opposite her with no one other than Jeremiah Hadi the sec 1
-
when Joel yap went off to get stuff at the harti cafe
-
luckily Xuanqi joined us soon enough, followed by Sze Min, Ethel and Theo
-
lol none of them have changed much...
Ethel is still as fierce and 'boyish' as ever
Theo is still Theo
lol

Highlights: Taboo
-
"the nut closes to your heart"
"nipple?"
(apparently it was chestnut... doh...)
-
*some weird reference to the male anatomy*
(apparently it was Dick Lee)
-
and Douglas was funny as usual
"transmitted by mosquitos"
"SARS"(correct)
(since when was SARS transmitted by mozzies?")
-

Highlights: TnD
the alien invasion questions... lol
-
"if aliens invaded the earth and eradicated everything and you were stuck with only one person, who would you prefer.
-
"E.T.(the alien) or Ms ranjee"(Sze)
"E.T.?"(Eve)
-
LOL... apparently she connected 'ET' to refer to her...
-
the problem is when i started referring to her as et in my blog... lol
> <
-
"must be a girl(member of opposite sex) from choir"(sze)
"I thought this question had procreation in mind"(eve)
(errrrr...)
-

"Emil what did you say the last time?(2006 alto Halloween party)"(Sze)
"erm ... i think xuan if i rmb correctly"
-
I didn't have to give any 'newer answer' anyway...
but did it made me think for a bit
I don't really know many of the girls in choir at the moment, even for the Y6s, i don't exactly talk to them
-
maybe...
-
nmind... focus lah... don't get yourself into trouble
-
dotz
-

"Love, and be silent."
-
maybe its the best...
even if "nothing will come of nothing" ...
-
appearing offline isn't fun...
-
ah well
-
tiredddddd...
-
sick of studying.... sick of thinking ... sick of everything
-
booooo,
I think I'm going to die if I'm found out...
-
><
-
God be my everything to cling to...
"You have searched me and known me"(Ps 139)
-
my QT is dying... why am i so tired...
why?

what there for me
drowning in materialism, tech gadgets, work, friends
-
but only God can fill that void
but I need to find You first

Leopard Vista Ubuntu

Mac OS X Leopard
Windows Vista Home Premium
Ubuntu Linux
-
running simultaneously without a hitch with VMware fusion
used spaces to split up the workspaces
(i super-imposed a screenshot of the mac OS X environment to make it look nice... in reality, you don't see the mac desktop in spaces, only applications)
(and in my vista install, I moved the task bar to the top, and i installed Stardock Objectdock, and put the default leopard BG as wallpaper)
Allocated RAM/HD
Mac OS X - 1.5 GB ram -Native HD - host environment
Windows -2GB ram - Native HD(Bootcamp)- virtual environment
Ubuntu - 500MB ram - Virtual Drive -virtual environment
-
mac OS X is running fine
Ubuntu runs very quickly
but Vista still is rather slow(irony, considered i allocated the most ram to it)
-
haha
the power of the 4GB ram Macbook Pro with VMware Fusion*
-
*note while it is possible to do the same in windows and linux using VMware player/workstation, you can never get the same stability(for windows) or UI pleasing eye-candy/user-friendliness(for linux) as Mac OS X
-
and indeed i see why people Favor Linux over Windows
-
so much more stable and fast(considering i ran it under the BARE minimal ram )
-
but its a bit of nightmare trying to figure out how things work...  one needs to understand the UNIX terminal and the lot...
 -
and all the applications for Linux is open source... while there are a large number of them... one still cant exactly use the old software one is used to(at least Mac has a lot of port overs from windows)
-
haha
if i ever get a non-apple machine in the future
I'll consider ubuntu over Vista or Windows 7 (the next fiasco MS is likely to commit, nice doing away with the mouse in favour of touch screens
-
will post on the choir "alto reunion" when i feel like it... haha
-
Alto of 05-06
Those were fun times =)

Creative advertisement at the apple site?

surfing around I saw this:
notice the advertisement?
Why the heck is apple advertising for the Creative Zen at their Website on iPods???
-

apparently was because i was surfing at GWC using Wireless@SG from Qmax
-
I believe IDA paid Qmax to provide  "free wireless"
-
doing this kind of unscrupulous thing isn't correct, esp when it drastically affects the browsing experience.
I couldn't see the last 2 cm or so of the webpage because the sickening ad blocked it
-
besides retarded things like the above...
-
someone should file a report to IDA or CASE

the other side

a few things to note i guess
and realise
-
a geog IA submitted...
and its really early... library not open
so decided to wander around a bit
spied Ms Lydia Yap having some sort of chem lesson...
-
went to the library, thinking of borrowing Planet Geog to study... didnt feel like studying in the library alone
-
and ran into pigear Zhuo'er and John Tay =p
-

miss lost history notes girl (it 'wasnt supposed to happen', so i wont say ur name =p)
ran in after Chem
flustered about some weird sms
-
lol
ah well
SMS and MSN is bad
it makes those people who wouldn't otherwise say things be able to communicate it
-
after all
it only needs 1 second of courage
to push a 'send' button
-
reminds me of a situation i was in - in the other side,  way back in December
walking alone  along Scotts Road late at night...
-
hmm
anyway
an instant disappointment msg
is better than John Tay's 'ignore it'
-
imagine the thought processes:
-
Ignore:
1. wait wait wait
2. does she???
3. ignoring is interpreted as indecisiveness - gives false hope, since the human mind can get so horribly deluded by emotions
compared to
1. " but i don't like you in that way, you know what i mean... sorry ><"
2. emo a bit... move on
-

"point ten?"(JC)
-
old story... the past is gone anyway
-
i made stupid mistakes too... oh well

looking around Zhuo'er's music
-
yay MORE ENYA =)
-
noticing a certain track....
listening to it
-
things seem so different from the other side
and i realise what so many things mean
-

ah well
"oh its a reference to Greg Low's statement'
"so who?"
"scrutinise every single post on my blog and you might be able to guess"
-
lol
maybe you'll guess... i dunno, maybe some part of me wants to make it obvious
and again
maybe not...
haha
typical human behaviour...
><
tell me if you'd guessed...

Alabaster Jar

the sum of my desires
and the fullness of my joy...
-

lala land, the land where everything is sunny and bright
urnt
it be better than emo land...
-
Gregory Low: "there's bound to be Chemistry"
-
me thinks:
"I hate chemistry, it always so full of uncertainty"
lol ±

blue blue blue blue moon...
deep deep dah...
blue blue blue blue moon...
-
exactly 1 year ago....
I was sitting down at that same spot
at the sec 1 corridor
-
asking God for direction
-
He said "up to you"
but I didn't know what choice to make
so things just went on...
-
but at any rate
... i dunno how to make  choices
so You take control Lord

its been a long year... I've learnt so much, I've seen so much
-
but there is so much more to see...

ah well choir V day song:
-
Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
-
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold
-
Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
-

but after all as John puts it
"there are so much more important things"
-
For which i partially agree... while these things cannot replace the importance of seeking God
but that doesn't mean mugging extra Bio is more important =p
(I emphasis extra =P, studying unfortunately has its importance)
-
relationships(any kind for that matter) do matter also... we cannot live life alone =)
-
but the most important relationship is God...
-
Here I am
Take me
As an offering
-
Here I am
Giving
Every heart beat
For your glory
-
Take me
-
well I got my wish... I did go for LDC even if its just a tiny bit
and even if Mr J. Ng wasn't around
=)

P.G.

its become ever so prevalent
ever so subtly sneaking up on us
-
the God who is suppose to aid your finances
-
to give you "Your best life now"
-
haiz
-
references of gold teeth miracles
-
and even 'you might have had a bad week but next week is going to be great'
(sounds remarkably like one of the american preachers i heard on youtube)
-
I'm not condemning anyone... but didn't God make it clear, so clear
-
that we are nothing, but He is everything
and the end of all things
is not how well our lives go
but how He is glorified
-
and even if He chose to throw us to the depths of hell
he still has a right to... and be glorified
we are so unworthy... but he chose us
-
why do we distort His word?
and cheapen it so much
to promote Jesus as some wonder pill... pop it and He'll give you a great life
-
but its more than that
abundant life... abundance because we live in the light... abundance because He is glorified in Our lives,

we argue how Harry Potter is witchcraft and how Catholics are heretical
-
but we fail to see the true evil, true heresy... that is so subtle and within the whole Protestant movement itself, whether evangelical or Pentecostal
-
that all you need to pop this wonder pill called Jesus by saying some prayer
and He'll give you everything you ask for, whether you need it or not, like some wonder Santa Claus
-
the end of all things is the Glory of God... that he is glorified... in our successes, in our failures, in everything
-

Prosperity Gospel... why?

emo land or lala land

emo land or lala land
-
emo land (depression and disillusionment)
lala .land (delusion and delirious)
-
dunno which is better
-
although the latter is so much more tempting... escapism...
-
"you better wake up from your lala land"
that eventually has to come though...

whine... to get emotional support?
-
ah well
I need someone like tim unfortunately
-
or I'm going fall so bad
-
boo
-

wish I could join you all for LDC...

Love lead Me On

Love Lead me On - The Afters

Someday I'm gonna go out to the country
I'll drive till the highway ends
Chasing after picture perfect sunsets
To take away my breath
I'm tired of living in the city
The world's got me tied on a string
Wanderlust has overcome me
Like Lewis and Clark I'll dream

There's a million different ways to go
Only God can know where I will call my home

Chorus
Love lead me on
Where no one else has gone
Faith keep me strong
Love lead me on

The open road can be so lonely
I'm longing for someone to love
If only I could share my new surroundings
Open the doors above

There's a million different ways to go
Only God can know where I will call my home

Chorus
Love lead me on
Where no one else has gone
Faith keep me strong
Love lead me on

Faith keep me strong
Love lead me home

A nice song nevertheless...
-
whatever John Tay
-
I supposed something is wrong that I know that Amanda takes Econs SL not Geog? when asked by Zhuo Er?
-
lol
-
oh no
I know John Tay takes HL business
-
oh no
I know Evelyn takes French ab
-
Oh no
I know Tessa takes Bio SL
-
oh no
I know Petrina takes Physics HL
-
oh no
I know Lee Min takes Business SL HL(opps)
-
big deal... pff

LDC... hmm
we'll see
should I go in spite of the work I need to do?

Always...

Verse 1:
Did You rise the sun for me?
Or paint a million stars that I might
Know Your majesty?
Is Your voice upon the wind?
Is everything I've known marked
With my maker's fingerprints?

PreChorus:
Breathe on me
Let me see Your face
Ever I will seek You

Chorus:
'Cause all You are, is all I want, always
Draw me close in Your arms
Oh God, I wanna be with You

Verse 2:
Can I feel You in the rain?
Abandon all I am to have You
Capture me again
Let the earth resound with praise
Can You hear as all creation lives
To glorify one name?

I wonder
-
Quotes:
-
"I used to, now I don't... I'm being honest"
"trying to get over it is not wrong"
*do i even need to get over anything... that what was part of me will be forever buried, suppressed and gone... always...
-
"knowing ... i don't think its possible"
*let it be... knowing all things are possible in Him... where ever he leads... following Him ... always...
-
"to pick up ... to throw away a... to not cling on ..."
"do you think he's changed"
*can a trial pull one down? God wont let us be tested beyond what we can bear... And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose(Romans 8:28)... always...
-

"do your QT"
"God will make a way"
*ha ha... i need to rely on Him, to seek Him ... always...
and He will take care =)

Day 5 - Log

One of my favourite psalms
I guess I have not been doing my QT as well as i should be
oh well...

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 O LORD, you have searched me
       and you know me.

 2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

 3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

 5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths,
 you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

 13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
       your works are wonderful,
       I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
       were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
       When I awake,
       I am still with you.

19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

 20 They speak of you with evil intent;
       your adversaries misuse your name.

21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against you?

 22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
       I count them my enemies.

 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

Vivo City

Church Today,  that same old familiar picture

and Pastor Seet actually agrees with my idealistic ideas about flaws being the true beauty
-
and the idea of timing... lol:
you might find the correct person, but he or she might still be 'under construction',
-

hmm stuck in vivo city from 2pm- 8pm , doing the most fun activity in the world... SHOPPING =)
-
haha
-
saw quite a number of weird things today
-
First stop: Digital Life (Mac Shop), tried out the new Peryn Macbook Pro with  multitouch Track pad.
its uber neat... esp the zoom fuction
-
Second stop: Challenger
saw a few things that caught my eye:
1. Apparently we have a NEW SI unit modifier, the "Maga"
wonder if that has anything to do with manga
-
2. and saw this really Tiny laptop... almost a rip off the Macbook Air.... no CD drive: Ultra light:
-
me:" Isn't it like the Macbook Air?"
Salesperson: "but cheaper"
-
Pictures:
Front View
Front View With Hand to show actual size
Back view, note that the signboard with the specs is bigger than the laptop itself, its almost as small as a portable DVD player:

it even has a 'multitouch' trackpad... total rip off sia:
and at a measly price of 798 who wants to get a Macbook Air?, on closer inspection of the specs, it isnt exactly your Macbook Air...:

erm... what can you do with 12 GB of Flash HD?
and a lousy Celeron at 1.1Ghz??
-
not surprising they only loaded XP in it... even Vista starter might have blown its CPU into bits

and I went to PageOne after that, saw quite a few erm... 'interesting' things around near the "religion" section:
-
Since when was the gospel of John a "Gnostic Gospel"? a pity the Page One people chucked it together with all the heretical books:
Hmm I don't think Dawkins likes Religion

And placed in a very prominent shelf nearby in all its glory:

Surprisingly I couldn't find the New York Times Best Seller by Osteen anywhere, not in religion, not under self-help, apparently Page One didn't want us to have '(Y)our Best Life Now'
-

meeting with Charles after that, and getting lectured...
heh
I do understand what Malcolm had meant the other time... but underneath the perhaps condescending attitude... there is genuine concern... and I'm thankful for it.
-
He thinks he know more than he does... oh well maybe its a good thing
-
The fact that recent posts nowadays do not refer to someone he kept mentioning...
heh ... he's as bad as Chng and John Tay sometimes... making fun of old stuff...
-
although... Chng... might or might not know...
-
ah well
-
a simplicity is better than overt intellectualism... I remember Mr J Ng once told me in Sec 3:
"You lack the simple faith"
-
and maybe I've found some part of it... just a bit... a mystery i still have yet to grasp... to build the foundation of faith not based on books, complicated theology, but just a simple trusting faith
-

and we go off eating, shopping with mum, sis, aunt, cousin
-
heh double standards... mum doesn't like it when i browse and look and see and try(the proper way to shop) but she can do all she wants in that.
-
why do girls have so many different kinds of shoes? it makes shopping for them more troublesome
-
but eitherways, after that i bought something i was eying at for some time... a Macbook Pro Black Crystal casing from Digital Lifestyle =):

-
It looks Really really Nice... sleek shiny and gorgeous, a perfect dress for my baby =)(my wife would be my Taylor 314ce =p )
-
haha
oh well
tmr shall being the Disgusting napfa training regime, IA regime and study regime
-
Poo
i see my holidays flashing away before me...

Day 4 - Log

1 Corinthians 13

Love

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
-
came home after 1030 today... so again missed that nice time

-
feeling left out...  again...
-
ah well
-
and somehow it seems that... a matter of it all
i just want to move on
-
that's all
-

i want to murder S Neoh
it isnt nice at all
-
and subtle jokes about a door knob which I DIDNT  BREAK DON'T HELP AT ALL
-
grr...
-

I want escape ... why...
-
and... I always wondered... if... but...
-
it doesn't matter does it? fly away...fly far far away ...
-
wow... wonderful that Emil has so much rubbish to content with, Work, IA, and still has to put on this fantastic plastic smile and mannerisms(irritating they may be)? and now Napfa (PES B poo)
-
the idea of NS sucks

the world is too harsh a place...
-
Eloi, Eloi, Lama Sabachthani?

Day 3 - Log

ahh well
i forgot
sian

anyway
so many things on my mind ... boo
-

Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
-
saw this on Feli's blog a long time ago
-

anyway
sighz
there just so many things on my mind... crushed spirit
but He is near
and He knows
-

"... somehow God always makes everything work out..."
-
give me faith to believe that Lord, and trust in You in everything

Safari Developer Menu

Something that is worth posting anyway:
As a mac user its really really REALLY annoying when you come across some random website on Safari which says something along these lines:
-
"'Your web browser is out of date/not supported/etc."
You need to be running the latest version of Internet explorer/Firefox blah blah blah
-
One can note that Safari, which uses Webkit as a layout engine, is more or less WC3 compliant.
-
compared to Trident(the MSIE one)which actually doesnt really care about WC3
-
Gecko(Firefox) is relatively okay and most webpages are designed for both Trident and Gecko layouts.
-
anyway after trying this hack you can "pretend" to be MSIE or Firefox (so the websites dont make noise)
-
1. Quit safari (Cmd +Q)
2. Run Terminal(use spotlight to find it, or navigate to /Applications/Utilities/ )
3. Type this code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
4. Press enter, Restart Safari
-
you should See a nice new menu called 'Develop'
has a lot of nice features:
but this one in particular is handy:

-
now you don't have to switch to another browser just because some website doesn't like Safari
-
simply fool the site into thinking Safari is Firefox(I dont recommend fooling the site to think Safari is MSIE, you'll end up with a lot of problems, like ActiveX controls and other nonsense)
-
and it should do the trick
-
*note that some sites still will not work with Webkit... unfortunately...
in that case the "open page with:" command works quite well, just use some other browser like Camino.
